About Horley
Horley started to change and grow in the 1840s with the building of the railway connecting London and Brighton. The population grew steadily to some 8000 residents by the 1940s. Change was rapid after the Second World War as Horley moved from an agricultural based economy to become a commuter town for London. This change was further amplified when Gatwick was designated as the site for London’s second airport and Horley became a place to house a growing workforce. Horley enjoys an unparalleled logistics location with many planned improvements to transport and communications infrastructure.
